Freethinkers are those who are willing to use their minds without prejudice and without fearing to understand things that clash with their own customs, privileges or beliefs. This state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking; where it is absent, discussion is apt to become worse than useless.

god is not Great, A Most Dangerous Method, and Projects

Just finished “god is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything” I had been all too aware of Hitch’s arguments from the various debates and interviews I have watched over and over again, but this was the first time I encountered his stimulating prose in a meticulous elaboration of each argument against theology. I am convinced and have been reaffirmed of my convictions that one of the best things the world can do right now is to abandon religion to the history of our species. The fact that Christopher Hitchens is no longer with us is a real shame indeed; humanism and humanity in general has lost one of its greatest champions. Thankfully, his work outlives him, and burns with the same fire he had and fought with in life.

John Kerr’s “A Most Dangerous Method: The Story of Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, and Sabina Spielrein.” Who would have thought that a historical documentation of three people fuming at each other from across great distances could make for such an epic tale? Much better than the Cronenberg film adaptation, although the performances in the film were fantastic. The book captures the scope of the drama during the birth of psychoanalysis, the mythological resonances of the relationships between the three main figures, and a deep knowledge of their psyches. The author really knows his shit and knows how to write. This is definitely one of those books I have to read more than once, and gladly will.

I have begun editing a short story for my school’s literary magazine. Once that is done, it will be proofread, then shipped to the magazine as submission! Numerous other projects await.

Time to wake up :P

Was up until four this morning, set my alarm for nine, fell back to sleep, woke up at eleven thirty, fell back to sleep, woke up at twelve. Going to customize today, try to write as much as I can, play some video games, get chores done. Hopefully, I get to drive again today. I miss Kutztown, I can’t wait to go back. I should probably submit my birthday list to all in my family who will get me presents. I will be twenty-two on August 22!
